Is It Worth Getting an SSD?

So, maybe you have heard someone mention SSD.  Do your eyes glaze over when you hear that you about upgrading a computer to an SSD (Solid State Drive)?

What is an SSD’s function for your computer?  The drive is where your data is stored for your operating system, files like documents, pictures, music, and videos.  A traditional, hard disk drive, HDD, has moving parts.   An SSD does not have moving parts, thus more durable.

So, there are a few major benefits you will experience with an SSD:

  • Faster boot and load time
  • Increased and improved durability – no moving parts
  • Data more secure – decrease the risk of damaged drives due to dropping your laptop
  • Better overall computing experience

The other major advantage is that generally speaking, the cost of the SSD has gone down in the past few years.    Even upgrading your computer with a new drive like an SSD can breathe new life into your existing computer.  As the cost of new laptops has gone up, an SSD might be a more economical way to upgrade your computer to meet your needs.

We often will recommend a blended approach – store your operating system and apps/programs on the SSD and use an HDD to store your files – documents, music, pictures, and videos. (Of course, for laptops, sometimes that is not possible due to the amount of space in the drive area.)

We offer 256 GB, 512 GB, and 1 TB options for SSD. Other sizes are available by order. The size of drive we would recommend for you is based on your need and your budget.
