IS IT WORTH GETTING AN SSD?

So, maybe you have heard someone mention SSD. Do your eyes glaze over when you hear about the difference upgrading a computer to an SSD (Solid State Drive) will make?

What is an SSD’s function for your computer? The disk drive stores your data — such as your operating system, software programs, and files like documents, pictures, music, and videos — on your computer. A traditional hard disk drive, HDD, has moving parts, and an SSD does not have moving parts, thus it’s more durable.

So, there are a few significant benefits you will experience with an SSD:

  • Faster boot time and quicker load time
  • Increased and improved durability – no moving parts
  • With no moving parts – it’s quieter and produces less heat
  • Data more secure – decrease the risk of damaged drives due to dropping your laptop
  • You have a better overall computing experience

The other significant advantage is that the cost of the SSD has gone down in the past few years. Upgrading your computer with a new SSD can breathe new life into your existing computer. As the cost of new laptops has gone up, an SSD might be a more economical way to upgrade your computer to meet your needs.

We often recommend a blended approach – storing your operating system and apps/programs on the SSD and using an HDD to store your files – documents, music, pictures, and videos. (Of course, sometimes that is not possible for laptops due to the amount of physical space in the drive area of the laptop.)

We offer 256 GB, 512 GB, and 1 TB options for SSD. Other sizes are available by order. Our personalized recommendations always depend on your need and budget.
